Ricardo, Torrens, and Sraffa: a summing up
*Università di Napoli Italy
Abstract
This paper discusses the existence in Torrens's works of a corn-ratio theory of profits, the Ricardian origin of which is avowed by Torrens himself. This constitutes significant evidence in favour of Sraffa's reading of Ricardo's early theory of profits. Samuel Hollander's rebuttal of this evidence is also discussed, and found to be based on a seriously flawed reading of the relevant texts.
