Labour market segmentation and the state: the New Zealand experience

Abstract

This paper analyses the role of the state in the historical process of labour market segmentation. The paper utilises the existing segmentation literature, and develops a framework to understand the state's role in segmentation. The New Zealand labour market is then used as an example of the state's role in the process of labour market segmentation.
