Abstract
The editors of the Journal, in attempting to simplify proofs in the appendix to the article The Marxian theory of value and heterogeneous labour: a critique and reformulation, by Samuel Bowles and Herbert Gintis (vol. 1, no. 2), incurred certain errors. Page 190, lines 1 to 2 should read: is a quasi-irreducible matrix C*<C such that
*(C*) = 0. Since F(C*<F(C) by Lemma 2, we have F(C**) < 1 for all C** such that C*
C**
C. Hence by Lemma 5,
* is strictly less than
. Thus Lr>. Page 190, lines 7 and 8 should read: is some number a>0 such that if we set C* = aC, then
*(C*) = 0. Clearly C** is quasi-irreducible for all C
C**<C*, and F(C**) <1 for any such C**=a'C. Hence by Lemma 5, we have A*>
. But by Lemma 6, we have Lrx = .
